The strength of the Brazilian ornamental stone sector continues to rise in the international market. Data from the Brazilian Association of Ornamental Stones (Abirochas) indicate that Brazil is in 4th place in countries that produced the most natural stones, accounting for 7% of the world production of the stone sector. Trade transactions in 2018 closed with US$ 992.5 million in exports. The United States, China and Italy, respectively, maintained the leadership. Espírito Santo, in turn, remained in the hegemony of Brazil´s main exporting state, accounting for US$ 791.3 million of exports, equivalent to 79.37% of the country´s total revenues.
Data from the Trade Union of the Ornamental Stone, Lime and Limestone Industry of Espirito Santo (Sindirochas) analyze the year 2018 with encouraging figures for exports of ornamental stones. Although the final result of the year was 10.38% below what was verified in 2017 (Brazilian exports), the last four months were positive results, when compared to the same period of 2017. From September to December, there was a resumption of the growth, with a peak in November, which was 24.92% better than the same month in 2017. In Espírito Santo exports, the same behavior was detected, only changing the month more positive for December, with growth of 24.58%.
Holder of the largest natural stone diversity in the world, with a wide variety of classic and exotic materials, the country also bears the title of the 6th exporter of ornamental stones worldwide and much of this conquest is driven by Espírito Santo market: Espírito Santo has the largest Brazilian industrial park and more than 90% of multiwire looms in operation.
Also according to the survey published in the report of exports of December 2018 of Sindirochas, it was confirmed that Espírito Santo remained in the leadership of the Brazilian states that exported more that month; already in the ranking of the 30 largest companies exporting ornamental stones in Brazil, referring to the period from January to November of 2018, 29 of them are from the State.
In this scenario, where Espírito Santo is a major sales force for foreign markets, there is the largest fair of ornamental stones in the Americas, Vitoria Stone Fair l Marmomac Latin America. The fair opens the world calendar of events of the marble and granite sector and receives more than 20 thousand visitors, among them buyers from more than 46 countries.
The president of Sindirochas, Tales Machado, says that the event is a showcase for the promotion and strengthening of Espírito Santo on the world stage and also a leverage of opportunity for companies in the Brazilian ornamental stone sector to do business with foreign countries. "The world market for natural stones has a great expectation with the proximity of the fair, which takes place in February. The main exporting states and companies worldwide choose the Vitoria Stone Fair as a gateway to the presentation of their products and services to the global value market".
Machado completes that the expectations for 2019 are positive and that the international marble and granite fair will be a driving force for the expansion of Espírito Santo and Brazilian exports in the first semester. "We are aware that overcoming the present challenges will require a good deal of effort, dedication, discipline and unity. These, incidentally, are the targets present in our planning. We believe that our expectations in the political and economic fields become reality, that we have, for example, greater legal certainty in the activities and improvement in the conditions of logistics infrastructure, which will certainly bring us productivity gains, leading to the development of our companies, our society, our State and our Brazil".
The event, which takes place from February 12 to 15 in Greater Vitória is conducted by Milanez & Milaneze, company of Grupo Veronafiere, promoted by the Union of Ornamental Stones, Lime and Limestone Industries of the State (Sindirochas) and Technology Center of Marble and Granite (Cetemag).
